One of the main fads I have sadly been seeing steadily growing more popular is knee high gladiator sandals. Everyone from Jimmy Choo to Chanel is making them and it is atrocious. The shoes look like cages for your leg. Your calves are suffering in jail because you chose to wear sandals(which are meant for feet) that touch your knee! Do you really want tan lines on the bottom half of your legs? Also, if you have more athletic calves the sandals may have unattractive bulges as a lot are not adjustable. It's like a muffin tops for your legs! The first appearance of these monstrosities is Mary-Kate Olsen in Chanel sandals in 2007 (pictured below in the black dress). Since then, the shoes have only grown in popularity. Around 2012 they made a huge comeback and were seen in 2013 on everyone from Vanessa Hudgens to Rihanna to Anne Hathaway. No one was spared, except for the people with good taste.
My main problem with these shoes is that they take away from the outfit. I understand they are statement shoes but when people wear them I literally cannot look at anything else. They look too busy. If I had to choose I would say I prefer the flat sandals versus the heeled. Anne Hathaway is pictured below wearing Tom Ford heeled sandals (what is that dress Anne?! It looks like you taped a bunch of trash bags to your butt.) which make her outfit even more unappealing. The middle part of the shoes looks like duct tape was wrapped around her calves. Really, Anne? Don't get me wrong I love knee high boots like any other girl, but sandals are meant for the summer so there should be less material to let your feet breathe in the heat.
